Instinct took over and the shaking legs pulled the trembling girl erect. She shot forward. Having no care that she did not knowing where she was going in the dark. The ground grew soft and it made each step less reliable. Still she ran. Apendages swinging for balance and lungs screaming for air. Sara was drowning in the meeting room of her adviser. This was the last time she would see the room of her mind's eye.
A voice, soft and gentle, called to Sara. Heart pounding and body tiring Sara fought with her mind to continue to run. The voice called again. It was a sweet voice. One would never think that a voice so calming could bring such fear to anyone. It called almost musically. Sara pushed her body to the last ounce of strength. She fell. Her face fell hard to what had felt soft beneath her feet. It was cold rock now and Sara tried to stand to no avail. The soft voice seemed to materialize into what looked like human form.
Sara cried. She squeeled as if she were a child tormented by a dream calling to her nurse for comfort with no answer. The calls continued. The figure sighed and looked lovingly at the blond beauty who had fallen to the ground and seemed in shambles. With dark robes and cropped brown hair the figure crossed her hands infront of her and smiled. The figure spoke "Sara, my dear, Sara. You look a frightful sight. There is no reason to run from me."
The screams became high pitched and painful as the figure walked closer and bent down to gently brush Sara's cheek. "You can't run from me, my dear."
"My Queen, I beg of you. I beg you to give me another chance." Sara called between sobs.
Very softly the figure whispered into Sara's ear "What is my name? And why would I?"
Sara's voice quickly recited "You are Queen Francheska. You were more powerful then any man and in death have become an even stronger being. Let your imperfect servant try again. Let me live."
Francheska looked at the loathsome creature colapsed infront of her. "No, and I will tell you why. Through death you will understand why I have done it and you will be glad for that knowledge."
"Your son. You would do this to your son!" Sara called as the Queen turned to walk away. "You would let your husband, King Robert, destroy the destiny of your son? He is the one who was born to save us. You said so yourself."
The tall Dark figure turned and seemed to be reconsidering. "Yes, I did."
Sara stood "Did you not also say, my Queen, that I would be the one to bring the Prince home? You came to me when I was young. You gave me the tactics I needed to save him from his father. Gave me times and dates of where to be and what to say. You have molded me into a King's wife, you have taught me to be Queen. Why let your teachings die with me? Let me try again. Let me save Paul, your son, your majesty."
Francheska opened her arms to Sara. Stumbling toward the Queen the tired desheveled girl felt calm and peaceful. They embraced as mother and daughter would. Kisses on Sara's head felt heavenly after such an ordeal. It felt safe.
"My Sara, why would you have to be alive to bring Paul home?"
With a flash Sara's blond hair was pulled back and she had returned to her bedroom. Five armed guards held her. She screamed for Paul. Time seemed to have moved forward my months. Snow framed the window and the cold cut through her clothes. Trying to understand what had happened she could only call his name again and again. Roughly pulling Sara from the country house, binding her hands and dragging her along the path to Belthastor the guards had sealed Sara's fate. A fate she would learn about when the air had finally left her lungs.
